Piss off hipster’s – that’s my territory

Thanks to Davinia today I finally realised what’s the whole buzz happening at the moment about moustaches.

Out of the blue peeps would think it became SO funny! Girls would take web cam pictures and upload it on tumblr, the cream of the story and the latest trend (apparently!) is to make a tattoo at the one side back of your finger. Like that:

Hipsters are evading this world & Freddie doesn’t want to become average:

I know, they have a good shield, good excuse for that. They say its Movember! Have you heard about it?

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. Seriously?

This young man doesn’t look like he’s  made an appointment at doctor’s. He thinks that he’s extremely cool …and lonley chicks would secretly press reblog at his pic:

I’m saying: “Stop That Derogatory Altitude To Moustaches. Go away hipsters, because everything you touch (like king Midas) becomes meaningless.

To sum it up – My visual manifest:

And for those who’re not in tune at first pic its really me

totally Dublin

To tell the truth I was pretty impressed by the quality of Dublin’s event guide”Totally Dublin” (it’s a rare thing to see, believe it or not for the free print of this type) For two years of living in Paris I haven’t seen anything similar in three of theirs free-running magazines. I guess the quantity overcomes quality, comparing Dublin to Paris which is such a shame, presuming all that arty-farty reputation of the last one.
Anyways, the point of this blogpost wasn’t particulary singing ode to Totally Dublin, but one interesting ad that I found there. I was literally mesmerized by the simplicity of the concept (this is what I always look for in any piece of design, btw). So, you stop turning the pages, you start to read the ad itself. It evokes tradition, with it’s blue table canvas frame. It’s all in Caps, but you won’t notice that, because there is not much of the text itself. You swallow it quickly, because it’s SO delicious and you say “I want more!!! Where is the place?”

It’s damn hard thing to do this kind of add, because first of all not every client would approuve the reduced quantity of “customer’s attracting design elements”.Well,  what you’d mostly expect would be a magnified close-up of a meal  and the info about the restaurant in Script or smth like that.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to check that place soon 😉

Aperture. Everything You Want To Know, But Were Afraid to Ask

Sounds familiar?

“You sit there and nod.  Try to look like you’re getting the point. Too shy to confront it once and forever!”

-Huh? Gotcha, Chicken!”

I’ve heard hundreds of times, I’ve read pile of manuals (and one for my camera too. couple of times), but if  earlier you would like to play it hard  with me you would ask me something like : “So, what the heck aperture is?”  or ” At what shutter speed do you normally shoot?”

And I would be like:

But as I say its time to confront your worst fears of depth of field and understand that fcuking aperture.

I bless my insomniac hours when of wondering around web and bumping into a truly wonderful stuff.  Today I found this amazing woman and it believe it or not, even if youareacompleteidiotlikeme 15 minutes of reading and you’ll fly at the  Olympus of photo art!

So won’t take any more of your time: Dive in!

Aperture, Shutter speed and  Shallow focus are ready to embrace you!

gadgets are not only for boys

Just spotted an awesome product design concept on Kickstarter site “Sensu Brush: A True Painting Experience on Your iPad by Artist Hardware” – an ultimate dream for an iPad artists.

See it in use

If you a complete geek  gadget obsessed type please continue reading…

There was a a talk this week about this lil, but very promising  shoulder-mounted, depth-sensing camera/projector, that will give us unlimited interaction practically everywhere. We kinda waited for that from the Iphone 5, but its 4s and we’re still not there.  Apple people should consider hiring those peeps from Aatma Studio’s:  [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz17lbjOFn8&feature=player_embedded%5D

That was the second time I watched Helvetica Faces looks more familiar, I’m getting the designers jokes. (and whatever happens between today and March I’m going to see Sagmeister!)

Could the use of the typeface be abusive? Are we’re living in Helvetica’s hegemony?

Behind every piece of design lies its special meaning, 70% of the people that look at the piece would only judge it due to their personal preferences: “I like it”, “What a crap!” Only 20% of the folks would grin: “Yeah, Helvetica bold”. 5% of them would drag Iraq war and big corporation’s manipulation and would be right too. (Being too clever is scary and harmful for your health) But it’s still a damn.good.typeface.: Clear and Nice all the way round. So my answer is by the time we’ll have its decent substitution, use it wisely i.e:

Go and check the audience that will judge your work,  their taste & expectations.  Go and spend weeks torturing your creative imagination, coming up with THAT idea, read more books than blogs. And finally give your soul to any of the projects you do, anticipate and go beyond, even if its an ad for toilet spray.

Don’t go for easy way out:

Caution! 100% girly content

Downloading soundtrack from Drive I had this idea of integrating two things together : my favourite series of witty postcards flying around the net these days

and the message  Ryan Gosling is fcuking HOT!  Go and see that movie!

Just in case you didn’t know that or have any doubts on that matter

And here is what I’ve got in 5 minutes of clicking in Photoshop. (Oh, NO! I used Helvetica again!)

This week started with the discussion about the use of the typeface in Drive’s poster. On Friday I went to watch it  and ….Maaaan, this is A Movie to take its proud place in my DVD collection. Forget what they say about all that violence and blood, because the camera, light, sequences that they build with the music and slow motion (It’s pretty impressive how many new words, that I’ve learnt recently I actually use in a single sentence) is utterly brilliant. A real jewel in today’s trashy box-office.

Have a  quick look at this scene (see how the light goes down, creating a special intimacy, because afterwards u need to RUN  to the cinema and watch, what’s gonna happen next moment)

There is something in the air

… about creepy stuff this week.
Then it might be my subconscious reminding me about the approaching Halloween? Even though in the country where I come from it is artificially planted holiday and is kinda ‘fake’…

I bumped into so many design pieces somehow reminding me of blood this week. But something that I dug today was absolutely worth telling you about. Just have a lil bit of patience to read  this post till the end 😉

This Week’s Halloween Hit Parade:

3rd place
A poster for the new series :”American Horror Story”.

So many references combined here. Don’t you think? Looks epic though and I don’t how about you, but I’m already downloading its first episode

2nd place
Everybody is aware how immensely cool is my “french blood” ring.

1st place

“Bloody fountains”- truly genuine idea, applied for the different purposes in different years.

2007 – Blood in Trevi fountain to save polar bears (Italy)

2008 – The Greenpeace anti-whaling April from Leo Burnett (China)

2011- HBO dyed Romanian fountains. Don’t forget about new season of  “True blood, kids 😉

Creativity hour

Since I discovered PhotoshopLightroom/WacomBamboo/EnteredGriffindor I forgot what does it mean, to sleep at normal hours…

Well I’ve been always kind of late “late bird”: hating mornings, wishing everybody dies when the alarm clock rings. Usual stuff.

I would never.never.never believe those people who insist on the idea that a precious boost of creative energy happens in early hours of the day. ( a laughing troll’s face)

-“Wake up and smile, sunshine! Wakie–Wakie

It’s 6 am, take your pen and …Nobel Prize is in your pocket”

-Yeah right..  Excuse me I’m not Hemingway!

We’re  a “day-oriented” society, nothing would change that. I have to suffer all my life.

I only wish, that in my next life I would be upgraded to live an work at night!
